The car stops where the sand gets soft, and the mat, the water tank, the grill and the cool box are still fifty metres from the spot. A folding wagon takes all of it in one go. We chose one with fat wheels — the thin kind sinks and you end up dragging — and a frame that folds like a pushchair into a slice that stands in the boot. Load it at the car, pull it to the spot, and it turns into the side table that holds the water tank off the ground. On the beach it does the same job with the kids on top.
