  • A4 Drawing Book
A4 blank drawing pages, school weight
Why we picked it

Art class asks for a single sheet handed in, and tearing a page out of the good sketchbook always stings a little. This is the book for that job: plain white A4 pages to fill, ruin, tear out and hand over without doing arithmetic about it. Blank paper is also the only kind that lets a child draw the thing they actually want to draw, at whatever size it wants to be. Buy two — one lives in the school bag, one stays on the desk at home.

Good for

School art class and supply lists · children drawing freely at home · rough layouts and idea pages you'll throw out

Not for

Wet media — school-weight paper cockles under paint and lets alcohol marker straight through to the next page. If the drawing is meant to be kept or framed, start on heavier sketch paper instead.

Questions people ask

How is this different from the 140gsm sketch book?

Paper weight and price. This one is school-weight and expendable — right when pages get used up and torn out. The heavier sketch book is for work you want to keep, and it takes ink and a light wash without complaining.

Do pages tear out cleanly?

Fold the sheet against the spine and pull slowly and you get a straight edge; yank it and you take the next page with it. Worth teaching once at the start of term.
